The severe winter storm that pummeled Oklahoma moved into western Iowa, and now, central parts of the state, with the Iowa Department of Transportation warning of major road closures in the area due to drifting snow while tow trucks are prohibited:
From Kwwl:
Travel is currently not advised on the majority of roadways in the western one-half of the state, as well as some roads in central Iowa (Des Moines area included). Snow is continuing to fall in these areas, and air and pavement temperatures are below freezing. This includes portions of Interstates 29, 35, 80, 235, and 680. Towing services are prohibited.
Icy roads are predicted in eastern Iowa due to an “unusual winter occurrence”: cold air pushing in from the south heading north, which can cause wet roads to become ice-covered vehicle skating rinks.
